Mayor Davlin has also successfully obtained significant corporate sponsorship to replant many of the trees that were damaged or destroyed in last years’ tornado. Being named Tree City USA for the 10th year in a row is not a coincidence. It is well deserved. Mayor’s Davlin’s commitment to making Springfield cleaner and greener has become a reality.
Mayor Tim Davlin established a new program to spruce up the city called Springfield Green.
More than just a tree planting program, Springfield Green has mushroomed into a multifaceted program to create attractive displays at the gateways to our city through floral and greenery plantings. Color has been injected into the downtown area through the multitude of planters placed all over the area. This summer, dozens of new planters will be added to the existing variety to further enhance the city.
One of the most successful ventures to date is the Adopt-a-Street program. |

Hundreds of volunteers donate their free time to picking up litter along many of Springfield’s busiest thoroughfares. Tons of trash has already been picked up removing eyesores that blight our city.
Springfield Green has also begun promoting anti-litter campaigns in the schools. Students at Lanphier High School conducted an anti-litter promotional campaign to help educate fellow students to the need to keep our city clean. A student paper recycling pilot project resulted in several hundred tons of paper being kept out of landfills by recycling it. Those successes may soon be replicated by others programs in other schools.
By working with volunteers and establishing partners willing to step up to the plate, Springfield Green has become Mayor Davlin’s premier success story. Watch it bloom even more this year.
